The local authorities of all the levels, employment services, trade-unions and employers combined their efforts in contributing the efficient regulation of labour power use. The gathered experience of all the interested parts provides the stable situation on the region’s labour market.

The Employment Service of theRostovregion consists of 51 city and district employment services that are state institutions. Each service is equipped with modern facilities, information research systems, it has access to Internet. More than 800 specialists in employment, consultants, lawyers, psychologists provide public services assisting citizens in their searching for job.

With the assistance of the Employment Service annually more than 120 thousand people (more than 60% of all job hunters) find an employment.

For January 01, 2012  22.87 thousand unemployed people have been registered in employment services. That is equal to 1.1% of  overall registered unemployed people in the region.

For the beginning of  2012 the list of unemployed people was as following:

  • 60.8% - women,
  • 43.9% - rural inhabitants,
  • 3.1% - graduates of postsecondary institutions,
  • 73.9% - people having professional education.
  • 26% young people (16 – 29 years old).

Unemployed people are usually registered in the employment services for the average period of 4.5 months.


The leading role in the economy of the region is taken by the industrial sector, which remains the main sector to ensure material wealth, product and monetary supply, employment and investment source.

The regional enterprises manufacture quarter of the industrial product of theSouthern Federal district.

Rostovregion is belongs to the leading regions of the Russian Federation in terms of the level of development and variety of industrial brunches.

Production potential of the region is highly diversified, 81% of the goods shipped (own production) is taken by the processing enterprise product.  The largest production share (95%) is taken by metallurgy processing, machine and equipment building enterprises. The share of industry in the gross regional product is around 25%.

Machine building and metal processing sectors retain firm positions – the share from total industrial turnover riches 30%. The largest companies in these branches are known not only inRussiabut far beyond. Rostselmash is the largest enterprise in the region and is currently the main manufacturer of agricultural machinery and equipment in CIS countries. Its share in the Russian grain harvester market is 63%, and it occupies 17% in the global market.

Up to 80% of total mainline electric locomotives and steam boilers manufactured in the country and 75% of grain harvesters, are manufactured in theRostovregion. The region also enjoys the leading position in heavy helicopter production and production of vessel navigation systems.
